Springfield, Virginia encompasses 9.8 square miles with a growing population of 30,417. It can be broken down into three main areas; West Springfield, North Springfield and Central Springfield. Institutes of higher education are plentiful around the city of Springfield. Within only 15 miles colleges and university’s such as Northern Virginia Community College, Marymount University, George Mason University, George Washington University, American University and Georgetown University can be found. There are a variety of public and private school options for high, middle and elementary school students. A few of the larger public schools include West Springfield High, Lee High, Irving Middle, Key Middle, Orange Hunt Elementary and Saratoga Elementary. A few of the larger private schools include World of Life Christian Academy, St Bernadette School, Immanuel Christian School and Prince of Peace Lutheran School.
One of Springfield's main features is the Springfield Mall. This large indoor shopping center offers numerous stores to easily meet your every need. It is located near Potomac Mall and Tysons Corner shopping center. Other great places to check out include Lake Accotink Park, Hidden Pond Nature Center and the South Run Recreation Center. Lake Accotink park spans over 493 acres and includes a 77 acre lake. This is a great place to boat, fish, hike or enjoy a picnic. The South Run Recreation Center offers an indoor pool with spa, sauna, racquetball and volleyball courts as well as a fitness room. If you love golf check out the Springfield Golf and Country Club. This 18 hole 71 par private course is located at 8301 Old Keene Mill Rd.
