Falls Church is an independent city in Virginia, United States. It has a growing population of 10,377 and is part of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Previously a township, Falls Church became an independent city in 1948 largely for the purpose of controlling its own school district. Falls Church is home to the high performing George Mason High School. It was ranked number 6 in the nation by Newsweek.

Higher education institutes located in Falls Church include the University of Northern Virginia and Potomac Academy of Hair Design. Within only a couple miles other institutes can be found including Marymount University, Northern Virginia Community College, American University, George Washington University and George Mason University. The city is served by Falls Church City Public Schools as well as Fairfax County Public Schools. Within the Falls Church City Public School district is the George Mason High School. Not only was this school ranked number 6 in the nation by Newsweek but was also number 1 in the DC Area by the Washington Post. A few of the other schools in this district include Mary Hellen Henderson Middle School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. The Fairfax County Public schools offers schools including Falls Church High School, Pimmit Hills Alternative High School and Belvedere Elementary School.
Falls Church is an active city with many attractions. The city hosts a Memorial Day festival and parade each year with a 3 km “Fun Run” along with crafts, food and a parade. Interesting locations including Mount Hope, the Falls Church, and Birch House all can be found in the city and are on the National Register of Historic Places.
